ABOUT US

We are a small boutique Maine Coon breeder based in Rangiora in the South Island of New Zealand. My name is Jo Woodrow and I have been married to Richard since 2011. Previously an insurance broker, I decided to quit my job to concentrate on my breeding program to give my cats plenty of love, time and attention.

We currently only have 4 breeding queens and 2 stud boys as well as two much loved neuter boys and my heart cat, retired queen Vladimir Pocketful Of Sunshine, all Maine Coons. We discovered Maine Coons for the first time in mid-2009 when visiting a friend at a cat show in Rangiora. There we met the most amazing cat we had ever laid eyes on, Diggie (Mainelymagic Digitally Enhanced) a large polydactyl Silver Tabby stud boy owned by Soozn Grindell. The attraction to this laid back and impressive cat breed had us hooked instantly and within a month, we became the proud slaves to Shiningwater Jack Frost (bred by Zena Pigden). Jack immediately took over our home and our hearts and we were in love. He is a good sized white Maine Coon who was born deaf. This presented us with few issues apart from his rather loud wail, especially when he was younger and would 'lose us'. He has successfully competed in shows across the South Island and attained Gold Double Grand Premier status at just over 2 years of age.

A year later, we had befriended Soozn Grindell of Mainelymagic Maine Coons and fell in love with the polydactyls. After waiting a short time, Gadget (Mainelymagic Inspector P Gadget) chose us to be his humans and soon enchanted Jack too. It was around a year later that the idea of becoming a breeder in partnership with Soozn was raised. Having always said I couldn't be a breeder as parting with babies would be too hard, it took the love and devotion Jack and Gadget showed us to convince me more people needed these wonderful cats in their world. Soozn had decided it was time to take a break after over 10 years of breeding Maine Coons and soon we were under way with our Breeding Partnership.

Maverick (Mainelymagic Top Gun P) joined our family in January 2012 and Furn (Mainelymagic The Silver Furn P) came along mid way through 2012 to be our foundation breeding cats under the Mainelanders prefix.

We were then very privileged to be offered Sunshine (Vladimir Pocketful of Sunshine) from Vicki Walls at Vladimir Maine Coons to join our breeding program. Sunshine has now retired after proving to be a wonderful mother, producing many stunning friendly babies. She will remain at Mainelanders as a loved pet and loving aunty to future generations.

As all polydactyl cats in New Zealand descend from the late Heddie, imported by Soozn about 8 years ago, we imported a new queen from Germany mid 2015 and are very grateful to Martina Roth from Wakpalaluta Maine Coons for trusting us with Wakpalaluta X-P Allegetisch (Ally). She is a black smoke tortie 2wd polydactyl and a very sweet girl. Ally is now enjoying retirement and being Queen of her own little Manor with doting staff meeting her every need.

Soozn has now decided to retire from cat breeding and concentrate on other projects. We have been very lucky to have her mentorship and advice and value her continuing support.

In mid 2018, we were thrilled to import a new stud boy from the Netherlands in partnership with Vladimir Maine Coons. Tabula Rasa Owen (imp Ned) is a beautiful big brown tabby with white who has already enjoyed big success on the New Zealand Show bench, already having reached Gold Double Grand Champion, received multiple Breeder's Awards of Merit, numerous Supreme awards and probably the most pleasing awards, 3 People's Choice Awards. He arrived in NZ already a TICA Champion having been shown a couple of times in Europe as a kitten and young adult. In 2019, Owen was awarded Best Longhair Entire Adult cat in New Zealand in the NZCF Annual Awards. He truly is an amazing boy and is passing on his exceptional looks and purrsonality to his kittens.

Through breeding these amazing cats, we have met some wonderful people who we are proud to now call friends and we know this will continue in the future.
